In the Bible, an abomination, or “abomination to God,” is something God hates. This should not be confused with an “abomination unto you,” meaning Israel, which is something God only forbad the Hebrews (See Leviticus 11).
God said in Leviticus 18:22, “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” He said it again in Leviticus 20:13. This was a direct insult to God Himself and His plan for man’s thriving: a tender, loving relationship between a man and a woman legitimized before God and society by the public vows of marriage.
This abomination also thwarts God’s instructions to be fruitful and multiply. Today, America’s birth rate is 1.6 children per couple, far below the replenishment rate of 2.1 children.
In Ezekiel 16:49-50, God also told of this same abomination in reference to what wealthy, full and idle Sodom did. First, they paid no attention to their poor and needy. Then “they were haughty, and committed abomination” before God, depravity so great that God said, “therefore I took them away as I saw good.”
The homosexual community latched onto verse 49, claiming it was “inhospitality” that was Sodom’s great sin. But no, that just led to their haughtiness and “abomination,” a reference to the story in Genesis and God’s condemnations of their sin in Leviticus. Can we avoid God’s wrath if we ignore this pattern as we become wealthy and haughty, legitimizing and legalizing this abomination?
Some modern ministers and Christian leaders have told their flocks they should not read Romans 1-5 for at least five years. Why? Because chapter 1 is too clear for them:
“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet” (Romans 1:26-27).
Homosexual activists choose to ignore this scripture because it is far too specific to be misinterpreted. It covers perverse affections when we let our emotions get away from our control. It covers the unnatural behavior of both women and men. It covers the perversion of men having intimate relations with other men. And it covers the payoff (recompence) in damaged bodies, disease, and early death.
Mark 10:6-8: “But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh....”
We cannot avoid the fact that God hates going against His created order of a man and a woman joining together and making a family. To Him, anything else is an abomination! God’s disgust with it boiled over into fiery judgment in the well-watered plain near Abraham’s camp. In dismay, Abraham watched the smoke rising with the intensity of a furnace (Genesis 19).
For anyone who wishes to honestly consult God’s opinion on the practice of homosexuality, these scriptures, including the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, leave very little doubt. And does anyone else’s opinion even matter?
Soul winners, Christ commissioned us to let the world know His plan for a blessed life, here and hereafter. For five decades, thousands of people have been drawn closer to God’s plan by reading His words in a Chick gospel tract. The testimony files at Chick Publications are ample proof.
This lost world desperately needs those words.
