Do You Have an 'Almost' Bible?

By David Daniels

Many modern scholars say "Of course I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, in the original autographs!" But they don't believe what you think they believe.

What Are the "Original Autographs"?

They believe the original manuscripts were inspired and free from error. But all we have today are copies, which they believe are full of mistakes. They are convinced that the true words of God are lost forever and what we have is an "almost Bible." God inspired the originals, but He didn't have the power to preserve what they said. But if the "scripture" we have isn't accurate, why bother to live by it?

They believe it worked like this. When God moved Moses to write Genesis, He told him what to write. What Moses wrote is letter-for-letter perfectly God's words. This far they are right.

But then they tell us a Big Lie. They teach that copies of those originals are not inspired. One Bible "scholar" wrote in unbelief, "It would take nothing short of a miracle to insure the inerrancy of a copy of an original manuscript." But Jesus said, "Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God" (Matt 21:29).

Did Timothy Have the Scriptures?

The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, "from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures" (2 Tim 3:15). Then he said, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, ..." (2 Tim 3:16).

Paul said Timothy had the inspired Scriptures. Did Timothy have the original manuscripts? Of course not! We see that God preserved His words. Timothy's copy was identical to the originals written by the prophets. Timothy's scriptures were preserved copies of the original.

God's Promise

Modern "scholars" should have listened to God in the first place. He promised to preserve His words! "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever" (Psalm 12:6-7). Jesus promised, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." (Matthew 24:35). And God kept His promise. From generation to generation, and from language to language, God kept His words safely in the hands of His people.

Doubting scholars like these bring us many new translations, trying to correct what God already preserved in the early church. But if you have the King James Bible, you have the same scriptures the early church had. They trusted it, and so can you.
