Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
One day I was door-knocking, inviting people to church and giving them Chick tracts. One boy was sitting on a low wall, playing on a Game Boy. I offered him a tract. “No; I’ve got THIS,” he said, indicating his Game Boy. Thankfully the other children in the neighborhood gladly received tracts.
Children (and adults) are being driven away from physical interaction and opting for digital entertainment and communication. But what is its fruit? They are being unprepared for real life. How do we counter this?
And what about our own families? Lack of direct family interaction means less and less communication between parents and children. And Deuteronomy 6:4-9 is not a commandment for the Hebrews only: it is the mind and heart of God. We need to pass on our faith. But what do we do in the limited contact we sometimes have?
We use the car frequently. When my kids lived at home, we read the Bible on the way to work. In 8 years, we read through the entire Bible, a chapter at a time. On longer trips, someone would read to the others and the family discussed what was read. Engaging the mind helped our five children through very tough times. We have even brought along tract assortments for the kids to read one after another.
For the rest of the world, I give out tracts – always a novel idea. Back when Jack started making them, cartoon tracts were like underground comics – people wanted to see what was next. In our present generation, things have not changed. I see excited people when they receive a Chick tract! I usually tell them a loose summary of what it’s about, and they tell me, “Now I have something to read during break!” These are all people who have cell phones. But God offers hope-bringing, instead of “doom-scrolling” on their phones.
Chick tracts pull them out of their harried and busy life and offer hope. It breaks the boundaries of their privacy, but on their terms, when they are ready.
By passing out tracts, you are aiding a true underground revolution —of hope and truth. It may be just what they needed to break them out of their doom-scrolling doldrums. God bless you as you give!
In Christ Jesus, and for His service,
