Revival!

What does it mean?

Is it people gathering in churches to hear the gospel? That’s a great start, but no. Is it people methodically teaching through the Bible? Again, a good practice, but no. What about soul-winning? Is that Revival? Excellent, but no.

So what is revival?

It’s bringing back someone or something

• From death to life, like a drowned person revived.
• From inactivity to activity, like reviving a person’s spirits.
• From inattention to attention to things of the Lord, as in a revival of religion.

Revival is bringing back something that was once alive, awake, alert! Revival isn’t saving people dead in their sins. They were never alive. In short, revival is for the CHURCH —a cleansing and blessing for the saved.

Revival starts with US. If we are not revived, we cannot help fellow believers. If we point fingers, saying, “Why doesn’t the church revive?” we need to ask ourselves, “Am I revived?”

The Lord spoke through His apostle: “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God…” (1 Peter 4:17). And through another apostle: “For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged” (1 Corinthians 11:31).

Let’s take time to judge ourselves and ask God to bring to life what was dead in us. Let’s open our Bibles, read, pray and ask God to give us a spiritual house cleaning. Get ready, because God will dust away a lot of cobwebs!

Then let’s spread some Gospel tracts and ask God for opportunities to speak about Christ. And encourage other Christians, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25).

If we experience personal revival, we can be an example and an encouragement to others to do the same. And if we do, Jesus may send us that revival, regardless of what is going on in the world!

Let’s take this challenge to heart, starting today.
