“It’s Comic-Con, How Could They Refuse a Comic?”

Sharing the Gospel at Comic-Con.

We recently received a message from one of our customers whose name is Thalia. She told us about an exciting outreach her church was able to do this July at Comic-Con in San Diego, California.

Comic-Con is an international comic book convention where thousands of comic fans, many dressed up as their favorite comic book hero, gather to eat, drink and breath everything comics and Hollywood.

The event draws huge crowds and is held annually at the Convention Center in downtown San Diego for four days (Thursday–Sunday) during the summer. This year, over 150,000 people attended.

Thalia and a team of about 30 believers joined together to help bring the gospel to these superhero fans. They distributed tracts to all those who passed by.

Thalia told us:

“We distributed 18,000 tracts at our Comic-Con Outreach today!!! Amen!!! It was a huge blessing.. It’s Comic-Con, how can people not take comics —right!?"

Below are some pictures of the tract distribution:

San Diego is home to the nation's largest concentration of military personnel. In the video below, Thalia recorded one of the team members wearing part of his military uniform and sharing the gospel with anyone who would hear, as only one of America's finest and bravest could:

Hundreds of “superhero” fans were able to hear about the One much greater than their superheroes: Jesus Christ!

This is just one example of how we as Christians can take advantage of large gatherings of people to quickly reach hundreds with the gospel where it otherwise would not be possible.

We’ve heard from other Christians who do similar outreaches at ball parks and county fairs. It takes a bit of courage, but many can be reached in a short amount of time at events like this.

Over the years, we’ve collected many witnessing ideas from Christians worldwide, so if you need some inspiration, check out our witnessing help guide.
