By David W. Daniels
My wife and I just went to my 20-year high school reunion. While we were there a friend of mine had the surprise of his life. Here's how it happened.
After I was saved I had wanted to tell one person above all: my friend David. He was the only one who had cared enough to argue with me about Christ Jesus and Christianity. He had given me Chick tracts and basically spent the whole senior year witnessing to me. I wanted to tell David that Jesus Christ had gloriously saved me, and that he was right, after all.
But no friend I knew had any idea where he was. Even on the Internet, I searched in vain for him. But my opportunity finally came: our high school reunion.
My wife and I saw David in the crowd. Excitedly I told him, "I got saved the summer after we graduated!" His mouth dropped, and his eyes widened. I gave him a short testimony. Then he told me his story:
You see David had also wondered about me from time to time. He spoke with other Christians about me but never found me. And just a few days before, he flatly said to a friend, "Of all the people I have known in my life, the one person I am sure won't be saved is David Daniels." I had been so enmeshed in the occult and all those bad philosophies that he didn't believe I would be saved. Over the years he also stopped handing out tracts.
But God used both his testimony and the Chick tracts.
If you don't see the people you witness to getting saved right away, don't give up on them. Keep them in prayer. And keep giving them Chick tracts. God is working on them behind the scenes, even years after you have given up hope. God never gives up. And we never know what miracle the Lord is going to bring.
