One of the most blatant efforts to dethrone Jesus in the new Bibles occurs in John 3:16. The familiar King James reading that so many people have memorized in childhood states that Jesus was the “only begotten” son of God.

Some of the new Bibles have reduced that to “only son” or “one and only son,” eliminating the word “begotten.” This translation contradicts other scriptures that claim that ordinary believers are sometimes considered sons of God. In fact, we all originated from God’s creation.

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." 1 John 3:2

By leaving out the word “begotten,” Christ’s status is reduced and allows the skeptics to question Christ’s divinity. Other scriptures that reference "the sons of God" are found in Genesis 6, Job 1, John 1, Romans 8 and Philippians 2.

Leaving out “begotten” has allowed some cults to teach that Jesus was just a created being, and not God in the Flesh at all! Satan is always delighted to engineer anything that takes Jesus off the throne of His divinity.

John chapter 9 in some new Bibles also contains a change that seriously damages the concept of Christ’s divinity. In the story of the blind man that Jesus healed, He asked him, “Dost thou believe on the son of God?” The blind man asked, "Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?" Jesus said, "Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee." Then the blind man worshipped Jesus showing that he understood Christ’s divinity.

But many of the new Bibles pick up the counterfeit Sinaiticus reading that replaces “theos” in the King James with “anthropos.” That makes Jesus saying “son of man” instead of “son of God.” If he was only “son of man” then he did not merit worship by the blind man.

Author David W. Daniels relates an incident when this made an eternal difference. A Muslim friend of his owned a restaurant where David went to eat.

His friend demanded to know where in the scriptures it could be found that Jesus said He was the Son of God. David immediately took him to John 9 and showed him that He had said so Himself, in this discussion with the blind man. His friend looked at it closely and then walked away. David did not see him again for a couple of months.

The next time that David saw him he was at church. David asked what he thought of that scripture. The man replied that he had gone straight to the backroom of his restaurant, gotten on his knees and trusted Jesus as his Saviour!

Another scripture in some new Bibles, that appears to diminish Christ’s divinity, is Micah 5:2. This prophecy of Jesus in the King James declares that He was from “everlasting.” The new Bibles seem to suggest that He had a beginning, originating in “ancient” days. This would make the Son of God a created being!

These fine points of meaning may seem trivial. But Satan keeps chipping away at God’s words. His goal is a watered-down Bible that offers no defense against the coming one-world religion.
