Today, I brought my car to the auto shop for its regular oil change. And I love the walk back to the Chick offices in the brisk morning. But today is “brisker” than usual. When it gets cool in California, it hits all of a sudden. I was not ready for it, so I was about to take a slight shortcut to get into our warm building.
But the Lord prompted me to walk the longer route, so I did. I pray every day to be obedient. Coming the other way was a man as bundled up as I was, smoking a cigarette.
“Give him a tract.”
It’s good to listen to that nudging, so I unzipped my jacket and pulled out "Limited Time Offer."
“Have a nice day,” I said as he approached.
“You, too,” he responded.
Then I handed him the tract. “Here’s something for you to read.”
“Thanks,” he said.
Neither of us stopped walking, and nothing more was said. That’s all there was to it.
It’s all about giving people a chance. If we don’t give them one, by giving them a gospel tract, they may not get one anytime soon. What if God picked one person to give them that chance —and you’re it?
God tells us in 2 Timothy 4:2, “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season….” I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to receive a gospel tract and God’s offer to anyone willing, to save, clean, adopt and grow, no matter what he or she has done.
But if I didn’t have the tract on me, I couldn’t have done it. Before we set out each day, let’s fill our pockets the best we can with gospel tracts that they will read. Every day I am grateful to God for the man who “listened” and gave me that tract —and that chance.
God bless you as you make someone else’s day —and eternity!
